Cooking processes generate oil and grease particles in a liquid state which form destructive accumulations in exhaust systems. These accumulations take the form of heavy coatings, often several inches thick, on exhaust ducts, hoods and fans, which poses an extreme fire hazard. The expulsion of these contaminants on outdoor surfaces by the exhaust fan, results in the destruction of roof and building surfaces. Consequently, expensive maintenance is required in the form of cleaning ducts, fans and replacing or repairing roof and building surfaces.

Conventional kitchen exhaust systems use simple baffle filters or a series of plates to remove the grease. However, cooking processes generate fine particles, which easily make their way through the turns and accumulate around these baffles or plates, allowing the contaminants to remain in the exhaust stream after the filters. UV technology has a higher success rate to remove the particulate through an oxidation reaction, but these systems are not suitable for the high concentrations of particulate generated by most cooking processes and therefore, also require very frequent and expensive maintenance by licensed professionals.

The Oil Screen separator element is designed to remove grease, oil and other liquid contaminants generated by cooking processes, with a very high degree of efficiency, packaged in a device in the form of a simple 2-inch filter. The Oil Screen separator technology, however, is not simple. It consists of pairs of specially designed profiles precisely mounted in a retainer frame, to generate a reaction that forces even the finest particles generated by cooking processes, out of the air stream. This process is protected by international patents.

In most applications, the Oil Screen separator is self-cleaning. However, if the contaminated air contains heavier oils or compounds that solidify at room temperature, then the element can easily be washed.
